  • Psychiatric medications are an option to include in your mental health treatment plan, but they are not the only option. The importance of continuing or adding psychiatric medications to the plan depends on the symptoms you are experiencing and the severity of those symptoms. With all psychiatric medications, I follow the “start low & go slow” philosophy. We will start at the lowest dosage and slowly increase if/when necessary based on your symptoms and tolerance to the medication. If a medication does not work for you, we will adjust it or discontinue it safely. Starting/trialing a psychiatric medication does not mean you have to stay on this medication forever if it doesn’t work for you/stops working for you or if you are not able to tolerate any of their possible side effects. Don’t worry, we will work together.

  • Integrative Psychiatry is comprehensive and involves both the traditional, modern psychiatry treatment modalities, such as psychiatric medication management as described above & psychotherapy as described below. What makes it special is that is also integrates complementary and alternative treatment modalities to mental health treatment plans as well. These treatment modalities may include prescribing natural supplements & providing lifestyle recommendations involving sleep, movement, diet, & more. Integrative psychiatry is looking at the whole person - the mind, body, & spirit - in a holistic, comprehensive way - opposed to just looking at a set of symptoms & how to treat those symptoms. We uncover the root causes for mental health symptoms using comprehensive mental health evaluations, screening tools, lab work, & other modalities & then create mental health treatment plans to reach mental wellness & improvement of overall well-being.

  • A comprehensive mental health treatment plan involves psychotherapy. We can offer psychotherapy at our practice if you are not already seeing a therapist. Different psychotherapy modalities are utilized, such as motivational interviewing & cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), depending on the symptoms you would like to work on. We will discuss this in our fist appointment.
